Dr. Ryan B. Cohen is a board-certified general surgeon with fellowship training in Advanced Gastrointestinal and Metabolic/Bariatric Surgery. He earned his Medical Doctorate from Boston University School of Medicine and completed his residency in general surgery at Einstein Medical Center, where he received the Outstanding Resident Educator Award and the Outstanding Chief Resident Award.
Dr. Cohen pursued further specialization with a fellowship in Advanced Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery at UC Davis Medical Center, gaining expertise in advanced laparoscopy, endoscopy, and robotic surgery. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed papers and has presented cutting-edge research at national conferences, including those hosted by the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS). His academic contributions have been recognized with several research awards, and he remains an active reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Cohen is committed to providing exceptional patient care, characterized by his excellent bedside manner, meticulous attention to detail, and technical expertise. He performs peri-operative endoscopy, gastric sleeve and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedures, as well as revisional and conversion surgeries for patients who have undergone previous bariatric operations. Patients can feel secure and confident in their weight loss journey under his care.
Additionally, Dr. Cohen handles a wide range of general surgery procedures, including advanced hernia repair, abdominal wall reconstruction, anti-reflux surgery, anorectal surgery, and other complex GI surgeries, utilizing both laparoscopic and robotic techniques. Outside of work, Dr. Cohen enjoys playing basketball, cycling, and spending time with his family in Southern California.
